Growth Organiser/Recruiter

The AMWU represents workers in the vehicle, metal and engineering trades, manufacturing; construction; paper and printing; food, confectionery and laboratories, technical, supervisory and the public sector.

 The SA Branch currently has a vacancy for a Growth Organiser/Recruiter to work in the Adelaide Office. 

 Applicants should have a passionate commitment to social justice and demonstrated sales results and excellent communication skills.

 

DUTIES

The successful applicant will work within a team environment to:

  • Promote the values and principles of unionism to potential members
  • Build up and develop a map of the workplaces to assist in effective recruitment
  • Make regular worksite visits to recruit and develop members/activists and build our union presence
  • Identify potential activists and research the issues that attract membership and participation
  • Draft key messages for leaflets and email communication to members and potential members
  • Distribute union newsletters
  • Encourage current delegates to access the union training program and get involved in union activities

 

QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE

  • The ability to communicate clearly with a wide range of people
  • A commitment to social justice and demonstrated belief in the power of unions to improve the lives of working people.
  • Experience and Ability to motivate non members to join the union and educate them as union members.
  • An understanding of what is required to build power in workplaces and industries
  • The capacity to undertake workplace research, write report and complete database records.
  • Sales experience in a results driven environment
  • Excellent presentation and telephone skills
  • Work to deadlines, punctual and well organised
  • Computer skills (Microsoft programs)
  • Driver’s licence essential.

 CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

A salary package which includes a fully maintained motor vehicle will be negotiated with the successful applicant dependent upon qualification and relevant experience.

 This position is initially for up to 12 months with an extension based on achievement of predetermined outcomes.
