 AMWU Members Helpdesk: Outbound Call Team - Part Time

The AMWU Helpdesk is an integral part of our Union, which provides ongoing support, advice and assistance to our valued members in workplaces nationwide.  The AMWU Helpdesk is located at the Union’s National Office in Granville NSW.

The role of our outbound call team is to support the Union’s campaigns and to speak to members about their membership and the key issues they face at work.  Our campaigns aim to build the strength of our Union and support our officials to organise, represent and advocate for the needs and rights of our members.

We currently have a part time position available for someone interested in getting involved in the union movement. The hours of work for this position are Monday to Thursday, 4pm – 8pm. Availability across all four days is required.

The position involves making outbound calls to our members in relation to general outbound campaigns as per the direction and needs of the AMWU. Some of these include:

  • Conducting surveys with our members on industrial issues in their workplace
  • Engaging with our new members
  • Following up on outstanding dues

The position works closely with the National and State Offices of the AMWU, and requires well developed oral and written communication skills. 

Hours of Work

4pm to 8pm Monday to Thursday

Outbound Helpdesk Officers are employed on a part-time, fixed term basis, on a 12 month contract and will be paid $30.85 per hour, plus 10.5% superannuation.

Selection Criteria

Successful applicants should have commitment to the principles of trade unionism and demonstrate the following:

  • High level customer service and outbound call centre experience is preferred
  • Strong interest in industrial relations
  • Confident approach to interacting with members
  • High level telephone communication skills
  • Team based skills
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Positive attitude under pressure
  • Quick and accurate keyboard skills
  • High level skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and Internet Explorer
  • Tertiary qualifications, or study toward a qualification, in industrial relations,

social sciences or economics and / or equivalent experience are desirable.
