The ACT Branch of the Australian Nursing & Midwifery Federation is seeking a self-motivated and committed individual who is willing to work as part of a small team.

Position Description

Communications and Campaign Organiser – Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation ACT Branch


1. Develop communications, media and campaign strategies including working with branch staff, the Branch Council, Workplace Delegates and members to identify, plan and organise industrial, recruitment and community campaigns designed to build membership and activism.

2. Develop and implement workplace organising and campaign-related advocacy activities consistent with the ANMF ACT Branch Strategic Plan.

3. Identify potential new membership and growth areas and organise new delegate structures in nominated workplaces consistent with the Strategic Plan/Branch Objectives.

4. Strengthen existing membership and associated structures through structured site visits, media and campaigns.

5. Coordinate and manage relevant media (including social media, online organising and campaigning) and communications to enhance the ANMF ACT public profile and campaigns.

6. Assist and support the development of publications, flyers, bulletins, posters, social media content and other campaign materials.

7. Prepare, deliver and review education, learning and training plans to Workplace Delegates, with an emphasis on communications to motivate and engage members in specific activities related to campaigns and membership growth such as online activism.

8. Work with the Branch Secretary, the Industrial Officer and the Professional Officer to develop and refine strategic goals and objectives for advocacy related to ANMF campaigns.

Key Selection Criteria

1. Demonstrated high level digital fluency, including knowledge of and experience managing a media strategy through a variety of platforms such as social media, print and/or radio, online campaigning and website editing.

2. Demonstrated experience of utilising an organising approach for campaigning and member engagement, specifically demonstrating experience in recruiting and training and development.

3. Well developed communication skills, including persuasive writing and editing experience and demonstrated attention to detail.

4. Knowledge and understanding of current issues in the health industry throughout the ACT.

5. Demonstrate and articulate excellent presentation, public speaking and interpersonal skills.

6. Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and set priorities when faced with competing demands, particularly when working in a small team environment.

7. Commitment to the underlying principles of the union movement, social justice, community development and equity.

8. Holds a current Driver Licence.

Highly Desirable

1. Experience working on union, political or issues-based campaigns with a collective focus.

As outlined in the ‘ACT ANF Staff Conditions of Employment 2012’ (as varied from time to time).

Classification and Salary

This is a new full time position and classification. The salary is $85,659 pa and is static (non-progressive), plus superannuation of 11.5%.
