Unions NSW Secretary Mark Lennon has today called on NSW Premier Mike Baird to defend millions of NSW workers by telling the Productivity Commission’s review of workplace laws to staunchly defend their working conditions and industrial rights

Mr Lennon said the Premier had a serious responsibility to defend the minimum wage, penalty rates, and other crucial minimum working conditions.

“The NSW Premier today finds himself at a crossroads which will reveal much about what kind of leader he really is,” Mr Lennon said.

“Will he stand up to Tony Abbott and defend NSW workers against the PM’s attempts to water down their pay and conditions? Or will he simply wave through his mates in Canberra in their crusade to cut the living standards of average workers?

“The NSW Government is the single largest employer in the nation. So in addition to Premier Baird’s responsibilities to all workers in NSW he also has a serious duty to represent the working rights and conditions of the many thousands of public sector workers who perform their duties in the interests of the common good in NSW.

“The Premier should tell his colleagues in Canberra that he does not wish to see the working rights and conditions of NSW workers undermined by their obsessive ideology.”
