General Overview

The HSU has recently created a new campaign team to complement the work of organising staff across its Aged Care, Public and Private Health Divisions. The HSU is currently running major industry or bargaining campaigns in each of these sectors.

The Union also wishes to build capacity within the Union for specialist campaign staff to run short to medium term local issues based health care campaigns focusing on delivering local outcomes for affected communities through internal membership activation that then spills out into a broader local community campaign.

The new campaign team also absorbs more traditional frontline recruitment activities such as orientations.

Roles in the campaign team will operate across both traditional face to face recruitment and the longer term campaigning skills mentioned above.

Job Description

• Recruit workers to the HSU at orientations, growth days and within campaigns.
• Build activism amongst union members and mentoring members into leadership
positions.

• Run small the medium issues based campaigns at health facilities across the state as required.
• Be part of a team that builds for major rallies and events for major industry campaigns.

Essential Experience and Qualifications

• The position requires someone with excellent communication, presentation, interpersonal and negotiations skills and who has the ability to work autonomously as well as in a team environment.
• Excellent organising skills and ideas
• Drivers licence

• Demonstrated success at growing union membership and leadership
• Ability to strategise and find solutions to challenges
• Passion for the union movement
• Ability to work some non-standard hours

• Ability to run local campaigns with experience interacting with local community stake holders such as politicians and media.

Desired Experience and Qualifications
• Knowledge and understanding of contemporary industrial issues in the public health sector.

• Ability to speak a second language which is spoken by a large number of HSU members and potential members and/or to communicate with people from a non-English speaking background

Salary

$64,000 to $97,000 plus superannuation, depending on experience. 

The position is based in the Sydney Metro area.
