Bring Our Workers Home Safely

Bring Our Workers Home Safely

Liberal Governments are cutting our safety laws.

The Baird/Abbott Governments have no mandate to reduce our work health and safety protections; the only laws that have the capacity to bring our workers home safely.

They are planning these changes over the Christmas break out of public scrutiny.

The cuts include cutting or amending the WHS Regulations to:

- make it harder to negotiate, elect and train health and safety representation;

- make it harder to resolve safety issues and disagreements;

- remove the requirements on how to manage risks;

- reducing requirements to provide for adequate first aid, for emergencies, emergency equipment for provision of first aid;

- remove requirements for regulating remote or isolated work;

- remove the requirement to manage hazardous (suffocation, explosive or flammable) atmospheres;

- remove the requirement for your employer to monitor for deafness;

- remove the requirement for minimising flammable and combustible material from the workplace;

- remove requirement for fall prevention;

- remove regulation for high risk work;

- remove requirement for guarding of equipment;

- reduce requirements to manage storage and handling of chemicals; and

- reduce requirements to maintain an asbestos register.

Safety regulations are there for good reason. This is not an area for reducing budgets

It was bad enough that harmonisation watered down the NSW safety legislation. Now that Baird wants to strip it back even further the workers of NSW are in serious trouble.

Weakening health and safety for workers is pure madness. This will have profound and tragic consequences if it goes through. Putting money ahead of lives is senseless!

So much grandstanding by politicians on the workers involved in the Lindt siege. How will their rights be protected under these changes?

I have been an injured worker for more than eight years. I have no job prospects and rising debt. Please help to make the workplace safer for all.

workers are our most important resource in Australia and NSW. Keep them safe, and IF injured, treat them with respect and dignity: ensure income, and ensure that any home modifications are done in a timely and collaborative manner. This will help those get back to work if possible, and save lawyers making millions fighting for every part of what is necessary to help the injured worker. I am happy for you to look at my case and see how much it has cost me, personally, and how much was actually paid, and then, the real money that went to fighting to prevent me from getting what I needed. i can tell you, the lawyers got the most money!!!!

Governments should not be frightened to have the highest workplace safety standards. We all deserve to come home safely from work.
