As part of the ACTU Marketing and Communications and Team, the Media Relations Officer plays a key role in media engagement and liaison for the industrial, economic, social and political agenda of the ACTU and Australian Unions across broadcast, print and online media channels.

The role is responsible for the timely and accurate co-ordination of media relations including planning and targeting media, the production and distribution of media and communications materials, media campaigns and events and monitoring and evaluation.

Key Selection Criteria

1. Plan, co-ordinate and deliver media relations across broadcast, print and online channels. 
2. Identify, plan and deliver proactive media relations opportunities to raise the ACTU’s profile, engage in public debates and highlight the industrial, economic, social and political agenda of Australian Unions.
3. Prepare and distribute high quality media and communications materials including press releases, talking points, media responses, opinion pieces, speeches, factsheets, online content and other information materials as required.
4. Plan and execute media announcements and campaign events.
5. Work as part of a team on the development, implementation and evaluation of media strategies and tactics for gaining media coverage for the ACTU, its Officers and public campaigns.
6. Monitor and track the media and external environment (broadcast, print and online) on a daily basis to research and analyse relevant issues and identify opportunities.
7. Effectively maintain and update the website, communications-related filing and record management systems and contribute to their ongoing development and improvement. 
8. Liaise with media including fielding requests, developing and maintaining relationships with journalists.
9. Source stories and media case studies through ACTU affiliates, TLCs, partner organisations and international unions and union members, as directed.
10. Provide support to the communications and media team including support for events, projects, research, campaigns and other initiatives.
11. Demonstrable skills in pitching and securing media coverage.

Salary is consummate to skills and experience, with 15% super provided and other excellent benefits.

This role is Melbourne based. Please note some travel may be required for this role.
