Call Centre Supervisors

  • Up to six casual positions for a short term project
  • Based in Sydney CBD and Parramatta

Do you want play a crucial role in the fight to save Medicare, defend rights at work and penalty rates, improve educational opportunities and make sure corporations pay their fair share of tax?  Are you organised, reliable, have good attention to detail, are a great coach of people and good at getting the job done? 

Unions NSW, the peak council of unions for the state, are looking to bring in some extra assistance coordinating our volunteers to have telephone conversations with thousands of union members as part of the “build a better future” campaign.

On weekday evenings and Saturdays over a number of weeks we will operate outbound call centres staffed by volunteers and existing staff.

You will be required to prepare call lists, brief and debrief with volunteers on their script, demonstrate how to record call information in the database and provide technical support, recruit and confirm volunteers for subsequent shifts, and generate reports after each shift.

Selection criteria


  • Demonstrated commitment to the trade union movement.
  • An understanding of the principles of organising.
  • High level interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience in a call centre environment, either as a worker or volunteer.
  • Ability to work independently in a busy work environment and ability to manage competing demands and periods of intense work.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with office computer systems including internet browser software and MS Word and Excel.
  • Ability to run small briefing sessions that motivate volunteers and create a determined but friendly environment for volunteers and some paid staff.
  • Commitment to acting in a professional manner representing Unions NSW to affiliates and activists.


  • Experience as an organiser and campaigner.
  • Demonstrated experience in applying the principles of organising to outbound calling projects.
  • Experience with using a volunteer calling platform / organising database such as Union Central, Campaign Central or NationBuilder.
  • A good understanding of Australian politics.
  • Completion of ACTU Organising Centre courses Foundations of Organising or Craft of Organising or, similar training.

Working conditions

These positions are on a casual basis and will be paid at the above-award rates of $40 per hour (weekday evening) and $65 per hour (Saturdays) inclusive of casual loading, shift allowances and annual leave, plus 9.5% compulsory superannuation (male employees), 11.5% superannuation (female employees) and applicable award conditions.  Successful applicants should be available to work between one and four shifts per week, with a roster developed collaboratively with successful applicants.

The positions will be based in Unions NSW’s offices in Trades Hall, Sydney and Gough Whitlam Plaza, Wentworth St, Parramatta (near the station).

This is a position that will give campaigners experience in leading teams.   Training in systems will be provided.
