We are seeking to employ an experienced, highly motivated and professional Chartered Accountant for our team.  This is a broad ranging position that would particularly suit an experienced accountant.

CFMEU is the main union in the building and construction industry in Australia, representing over 100,000 workers and their families.

Our Construction & General Division National Office represents the union in national and international forums, advocates with politicians, government and regulatory bodies, co-ordinates national campaign activities, undertakes large legal matters and represents the Division in the broader CFMEU.

We are a small team predominately located in Melbourne, Sydney & Brisbane.

The successful candidate will have a proven track-record as a Chartered Accountant, and will be able to work with minimal supervision.


• Preparation of regular management reporting, including preparing balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and other ad-hoc reports;
• Manage all accounts receivable and payable, including timely collections & payments;
• Maintain accurate accounts data via the book keeping software Xero;
• Develop and implement strategies to manage organizational cash flow;
• Co-ordinate all payroll related operations, including year-end payment summary reconciliations;
• Prepare statutory accounting requirements, BAS, FBT & GST processes
• Undertake all bank and corporate credit card reconciliation and prepare monthly reports;
• Manage Asset Register;
• Oversee various supplier contracts;
• Assist in budget strategy and manage budget preparation;
• Assist in the annual audit process;
• Ongoing improvement of professional accounting practices & processes across the organization;
• Ensure compliance with relevant State and Federal law, including the Fair Work Act and Registered Organisations Act
• Recommend strategies for best practice financial management;
• Recommend other administrative processes that may be expedient.


• CPA/CAANZ Qualifications
• Extensive practical experience

Other Attributes

• Must have strong communication and relationship building skills;
• Experience working in a union would be highly regarded;
• Must demonstrably share the values of the trade union movement. Previous experience in a trade union will be very highly regarded.

A substantial salary package including base salary of $131,779, plus RDOs, leave loading, ACIRT and 12% employer super contributions applies.
