Part-time Communications Assistant (12-month Fixed Term Position)

Unions NSW is looking for a part-time communications assistant (21 hours a week) to help us with social media, writing proposals, composing emails, proofreading and helping with other office operations.

Essential criteria

  1. Commitment to the principles of the trade union movement. 
  2. This position would suit a student studying writing, communications or journalism.
  3. Demonstrated ability to write well with a strong competency in English and strong knowledge of grammar.
  4. Be able to write content for various audiences and tailor tone and style of writing
  5. Experience on multiple social media platforms including:
    • Facebook
    • Twitter
    • Instagram
    • Snapchat
  6. Ability to execute projects with minimal supervision.
  7. Demonstrated understanding of the online landscape.
  8. Experience managing social media accounts.
  9. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. 
  10. Ability to take constructive criticism and make suggestions on content
  11. Willingness to learn new programs or technology.
  12. Have a positive can-do attitude, willing to lend a hand with office projects when needed.

Desirable criteria

  1. Competency in a second language such as Mandarin, Korean, Portuguese or Spanish.
  2. Experience using online and digital campaign tools such as CMS and email marketing platforms
  3. Extra points if you have a background in political, non-profit or union campaigns and advocacy.

Pay and Conditions

  • The hourly rate will be $25 an hour
  • Hours of Work: 21 hours per week
  • Personal Leave: 10 days per annum (accumulative) pro rata
  • Annual Leave: 5 week's annual leave with 17.5% leave loading pro rata
  • Long Service Leave: 2 months after 10 years’ service pro rata
  • Superannuation: 9.5% employer contributions 11.5% for female staff.
