REPORTS:

1. IEU Catholic Systemic School Staff Stop Work
Com. Ann -Maree McEwan reported that IEU members had not had a pay-rise for many years.  A 4 hour stop work meeting was held in various locations around NSW.  The rallies were in Sydney, Gymea, Newcastle, Aberdeen, Campbelltown, Parramatta, Albury, Tamworth, Wagga Wagga, Canberra, Bathurst, Armidale and Wollongong.

They complied with the ridiculous process to get a protected action ballot up.  50% was needed to vote in each school.

All catholic school's employees are covered by one EBA.  The main stumbling block in negotiations has been the dispute resolution process.  The employers don't want it to include binding arbitration.  Members need arbitration with an independent umpire.  The campaign is presently in the vote No phase.

Com McEwan thanked all delegates and members for their participation in the rally.  She also thanked Unions NSW Secretary, Mark Morey and Assistant Secretary, Emma Maiden who addressed the meetings in Sydney and Gymea.

The Secretary, Com. M. Morey moved:

"That the report be received and noted."

Com. A. McEwan (IEU) seconded.

CARRIED

2. Today's Rally - Change The Rules/Stop the War on Workers
The Secretary, Com M Morey reported on today's rally that was held at Belmore Park then with a march to Cook & Phillip Park. It was attended by a strong contingent of unions to fight for the rights of workers.  There were a number of speakers, particularly three delegates.  One delegate, Michael, spoke out against him and his fellow workers being locked out of a paint factory PPG.  Michele from Streets Ice Cream spoke about how the workers are being threatened with termination of the EBA. Dario, a CFMEU delegate was sacked after just one week.

There will be further actions and rallies as the Change The Rules campaign intensifies.

The Secretary, Com. M. Morey moved:

"That the report be received and noted."

Com R. Fortescue (AMWU) seconded.

CARRIED

3.  Bennelong Campaign
The Secretary, Com. M Morey reported on the meeting held that afternoon regarding the campaign.  Kristina Keneally attended and made her persuasive case why we should support her.  ACTU Secretary,  Com. Sally McManus also attended the meeting and spoke regarding changing faces in the Senate and the increased ability of the Government to get anti-worker legislation through.  This legislation could see the Government sack trade union leaders and stop trade union amalgamations.  We need to help win Bennelong and knock off the Government.  The campaign will involve telephone banking undecided trade union members in Bennelong, persuasion calls to non-trade union members, pre-poll and election day.  The how to vote format is still being finalised.  There will also be street stalls and a rally at Meadowbank TAFE on Friday week.  Details will be circulated.

The Secretary, Com. M. Morey moved:

"That the report be received and noted."

Com. D. McKinley (ETU) seconded.

CARRIED

4. Maitland Hospital Rally
The President, Com. J. Kiejda reported that we need to pull out all stops to ensure Maitland Hospital is kept in public hands.  We have stopped 5 other hospitals from being privatised.  This hospital is a bit more different as they are talking about handing it over to a Non-Government Organisation.  That would still be a huge problem.  Just look at the problems in aged care.

The President, Com. J. Kiejda invited all to the "It's Our Turn" Public Rally on Sunday 26 November at 12:30pm in Maitland Park.  This will be a public rally and Family Fun Day to demand Maitland Hospital remains in public hands.

The Secretary, Com. M. Morey moved:

"That the report be received and noted."

Com. T. O'Grady (NSWNMA seconded.
