The Unions NSW First Peoples Network is made up of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander trade union members from around the State.

WE BELIEVE ALL AUSTRALIANS DESERVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE A GOOD, STEADY JOB AND THE DIGNITY OF WORK.

We are worried about the marked disadvantage of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders in terms of educational attainment, life expectancy, imprisonment, childhood mortality, employment and family and community violence. We are also concerned about the Federal Government’s punitive and racially discriminatory
Community Development Program.

We believe there is an opportunity to create apprenticeships and a range of quality working opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders through government employment, purchasing and infrastructure projects.

We aim to connect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander workers with their union and empower them to improve their working lives.

Unions and unionism has always been a powerful force for change. Whether it’s standing up to wage theft and exploitation or seeking to change unjust laws, by joining together Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander workers can campaign for change and win.
