Position objective

To provide high quality industrial advocacy and advice to HACSU members through bargaining and individual and collective dispute resolution processes.

Senior Industrial Officer 

 

Union

 

Health and Community Services Union (HACSU) is the Victorian No.2 Branch of the Health Service Union. HACSU is an industry based Union representing Mental Health Nurses, Health Professionals, Alcohol and other Drug Workers, Disability Support Workers, and other Direct Care and Support staff in Victorian Mental Health and Disability Services.

 

Job Description

 

Working within a team environment, the Industrial Officer will:

 

  •          Provide industrial advocacy to members in respect of grievance, disciplinary and professional matters in Fair Work and other tribunals, this includes full case preparation and conducting conciliation and arbitration of industrial matters.
  •          In conjunction with the Senior Industrial Officer and Organising team, draft, review and negotiate Collective Agreements with individual employers and across sector employers.
  •          Undertake research into industrial issues and industry reform impacting on workers’ rights and employment conditions.
  •          Prepare submissions, briefings and reports internally and externally to various bodies to further the interests of members.
  •          Prepare industrial updates and bulletins for members,
  •          Contribute to the development and implementation of industrial and organising campaigns,
  •          The person will demonstrate a strong commitment to delivery of quality Union services.

 

Selection Criteria

 

  • Proven ability to strategically plan and manage industrial campaigns, including attention to risk management and the capacity to operate in an environment of rapid change.
  • Working knowledge of the Fair Work Act, employment law, industrial principles and practice.
  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate and achieve agreed outcomes for members.
  • Ability to work under pressure within a team and respond to various needs of members.
  • Experience in undertaking research and preparing submissions and reports on membership issues.
  • Strong advocacy skills to represent the Branch before appropriate tribunals and on industry and government consultative bodies.
  • Well-developed oral and written communication skills.
  • Computer software skills, particularly MS Office - Word and Excel.

 

Experience and Qualifications

 

The role requires either a qualification in Law, Industrial Relations and/or experience in industrial relations.

 

The successful candidate will have excellent research skills, attention to detail and possess the ability to liaise and negotiate effectively with relevant internal and external stakeholders.

 

The applicant will have experience in industrial relations, preferably in a similar position, a commitment to Trade Union principles and enthusiasm for further increasing our membership and supporting our delegate networks.
