ASMOF NSW (“the Doctors' Union”) is the union that represents the industrial and professional interests of salaried doctors in NSW.

We are looking for a professional, highly motivated and efficient individual who will be responsible for managing the finance and payroll activities to support the achievement of the Union’s objectives.

The role includes a broad range of responsibilities and would suit an individual with a flair for financial management and accounting detail, along with a strong commitment to compliance, efficiency and systems improvements.

The role requires someone with proven experience in managing the complete range of financial management activities, including budgeting, funding, compliance, accounts and payroll reconciliation for a similar sized organisation.\

Duties & Responsibilities under the direction & supervision of the Executive Director:

  • Initiate and perform accounts payable processing, payment, data entry and recordkeeping activities
  • Prepare annual budgets
  • Provide analysis and monthly and ad hoc financial reports
  • Assist and liaise with external auditors in the preparation of annual financial statements
  • Undertake monthly reconciliation of major accounts including; bank, clearing account, general ledger, corporate credit card and employee expenses
  • Process the fortnightly payroll
  • Ensure timely processing and payment of all statutory obligations, including BAS, PAYG, Payroll Tax and Superannuation
  • Initiate and perform accounts payable processing, payment, data entry and recordkeeping activities
  • Monitor and report on cash flow and cash management
  • Initiate and perform accounts receivable processing, data entry and record keeping activities and generate and distribute annual membership renewal invoices
  • Monitor, report on and resolve any issues with contractor and supplier performance and accurately maintain contract documentation
  • Ensure the accuracy, integrity and reliability of ASMOF financial information system, financial controls and membership fee structure
  • Provide assistance with general administration across the organisation.
  • Contribute to system and process improvement initiatives to enhance organisational effectiveness

Starting salary: Negotiable with experience

Hours of Work: This is a full-time position of 38 hours per week and will require the working of a consistent spread of hours over Monday to Friday inclusive. Whilst some flexibility can be accommodated, a key requirement of the position is attendance in the office during business hours (9am-5pm) as being the expected norm.

 To be considered for this role you require you must meet the following selection criteria:

  • Knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards and contemporary accounting practices
  • An advanced diploma or degree qualification in a financial or accounting discipline or equivalent experience
  • Excellent numerical skills and a high level of proficiency in the use of spreadsheets (including demonstrated expertise in MS Excel) and financial information management systems
  • Proven ability in analysing and interpreting accounting information and undertaking reconciliation processes
  • Payroll preparation experience
  • Strong planning and organisational skills and demonstrated ability to prioritise effectively to meet deadlines and outcomes
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally, with a variety of people at all levels
  • Ability to work autonomously and as a member of a small service-oriented team
  • Proven experience in accounts payable, accounts receivable, budgeting, financial reporting, cash management and contract administration
  • Demonstrated commitment to trade unionism.
