HSU - Assistant Industrial Officer

We are currently looking for a permanent full time Industrial Officer to join our team.

Job Description

The Assistant Industrial Officer works in a team with other Industrial Officers and assists with all work involved with advocacy in conciliation and arbitration arenas; provides advice in industrial matters; assists Industrial Officers in industrial disputes and runs noncomplex Industrial matters.

The Assistant Industrial Officer will also be involved in bargaining and negotiations on behalf of members.

The position would suit someone with experience as an advocate or other less complex union service centre role or someone recently graduated from University with a relevant degree looking to gain experience.

Essential Experience and Qualifications

  1. Commitment to trade union principles.
  2. Capacity to provide timely and sound advice and feedback to sub-branches, organisers, and members on noncomplex industrial relations issues, union campaigns and policies.
  3. Ability to contribute to industrial campaigns, enterprise bargaining negotiations and policy issues in the health care sector which reflect the priorities of members and good industrial practice.
  4. 4 Good communication skills, including oral skills, to build effective relationships with sub-branches, organisers, delegates and others in the health care sector on both individual industrial workplace matters and broader policy or campaign matters.
  5. 5 Accountability for individual outcomes, including timeliness; organisational, recording and report-writing skills; follow-up and report back skills.
  6. Ability to work as a member of a team - including flexibility to take on other duties and responsibilities as required; share information; mentor other staff; and commit to upgrading own work-related skills.


Relevant legal studies or tertiary qualifications.

Knowledge and understanding of contemporary industrial issues including in the health and/or aged care sectors.


A Salary will be offered based on skills and experience.
