Title:  Communications Officer

Classification:  HSU EA 2015, Industrial Level 1-2, Part-Time

Reports To:  National Secretary

This is an opportunity for someone looking to work 15-25 hours over 3 to 5 days depending on schedule with the salary being pro rata of the National Enterprise Agreement level.

Further development opportunities also come with the role and would suit a University/TAFE student, recent University/TAFE graduate or someone seeking flexible part-time work.

New Role Rationale:

The Communications Officer will work with other relevant National staff to ensure the work of the National Union is effectively communicated and disseminated to branches. The position will be responsible for the creation of communications and digital aids to assist and promote the Union’s core activity at the direction of the National Secretary. A strict communications and branch engagement protocol will oversee the work of the position. External media requirements will be facilitated on a contract basis with an external provider as the National Office does require significant capacity for media engagement.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks:

Management of HSU National’s digital and social media platforms.

Creating and generating relevant photo and video content as and when required to enhance branch and HSU campaigns.

Collaborating with branch colleagues to share and create content and enhance the standing of HSU among members and in the community.

Designing specific social and digital media communications/campaign aides including posters, flyers, stickers, billboards, SMS graphics and online advertisements.

Designing an internal HSU National newsletter/bulletin to be disseminated to branches.

Working with the campaign staff to coordinate HSU special projects and events.

Desirable Skills, Experience and Qualifications:

Highly developed skills using Adobe Creative Suite applications, including InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator.

Experience in producing printed materials and familiarity with print-specific requirements (e.g. bleeds, colours etc.).

Experience managing and utilising websites, across a host of platforms, including WordPress.

Experience managing social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Strong written communication skills and experience.

Ability to work independently with a high degree of creative initiative.
