Manager, Corporate Services

Position Objectives

  • Provide high level administrative, strategic planning, operational support and advice on corporate administrative matters such as engagement of suppliers, contracts, facilities and property management and information services.
  • Represent HSU as required, on relevant boards, committees or associations as a Board Director.

Organisational Responsibility

  • Analyse complex resource management issues and initiatives that affect the organisation, and prepare associated reports, correspondence and submissions.
  • Ensure smooth business operations and the provision of accurate and timely information
  • Provide direction in relation to Procurement and Contracts, Contract Tendering and Management.
  • Procurement of major contracts and services for HSU.
  • Manage the HSU property portfolio, liaise with real estate agents, represent HSU to Owners’ Corporation Committees where appropriate.
  • Manage special projects as required, including the HSU office relocation.
  • Manage and co-ordinate the purchase, investment, relocation and establishment of any new HSU head office.
  • Manage and co-ordinate office fit-outs of HSU owned property.
  • Ensure a high quality, cost effective service to Union members in the corporate service area.
  • Provide accurate, timely and high-quality advice to the Secretary, HSU Managers, staff and Elected Officers.
  • Develop operational plans and goals which reflect the strategic direction of the HSU.
  • Support and adhere to HSU’s policies and procedures, code of conduct and relevant Acts.
  • Contribute in relevant corporate services areas to the preparation of HSU’s budget.
  • Provide high quality customer service to the HSU’s external and internal customers, in accordance with HSU’s Budget, Code of Conduct, Policies and Strategies.

Learning and Development

  • Ensure ongoing professional development.
  • Attendance at conferences, seminars, workshops and other training activities to maintain an awareness of trends of current and pertinent issues.


  • Support and adhere to HSU’s policies and procedures, code of conduct and relevant Acts.
  • Maintain a good working relationship with HSU business partners and stakeholders.
  • Ensure a high quality of reporting to the HSU

  • Complex project management skills


  • Business Management practices at a senior level.
  • Industrial relations and trade union related legislation, operations and structure.
  • Budgeting, contracting, tendering and property management.
  • Acting as a member of a Board of Directors or similar.

Experience/Qualifications Demonstrated experience in:

  • Budget establishment, monitoring and management.
  • High level, pro-active internal/external communication in all forms.
  • Effective problem solving and decision making.
  • The leadership, development and management of employees.
  • Setting and achieving goals.
  • Relevant experience in business administration and management.
  • Appropriate degree level qualifications in a recognised discipline.
  • Experience and knowledge as a member of a board of directors.
  • Knowledge of Trade Union practice and procedures.
