Professionals Australia is a trade union which represents the industrial, professional and legal interests of Engineers, Scientists, Managers, Pharmacists and other professionals.  We are growing membership and building strength through working with members in their workplaces, in their industries and within their professions.

We aim to make a positive difference to our members’ working and professional lives and we promote recognition of members for the important professional services they provide.  We work in a targeted, planned way to deliver results for Australian Professionals.

The position is in the NSW Branch of Professionals Australia The role involves working with members and workplace leaders to plan and implement campaigns that build the strength of the union and deliver good industrial outcomes.  The focus of the role is in the power and water industries in which our predominantly engineering and scientist members undertake key infrastructure work.  There are opportunities to work on organising campaigns in other industries as well.  The tasks involved in this include creating and working to organising campaigns and plans, developing workplace reps, building sustainable workplace rep structures and recruiting new members.  You will also have the opportunity to be involved in enterprise bargaining campaigns. 

The successful candidate will have:

  • Demonstrated commitment to trade union values
  • Good communication skills – verbal and written
  • Ability to work with and influence members and potential members; including recruiting new members, activists and leaders.
  • Ability to develop leaders, reps and members to create sustainable workplace rep structures and organising committees.   
  • Ability to plan and prioritise work  
  • Ability to work autonomously as well as in a small team with often competing demands
  • Knowledge of the federal and NSW industrial relations systems, collective bargaining and individual industrial instruments
  • High degree of computer literacy and keyboard skills including demonstrated ability to quickly become familiar and competent with technologies which encourage communications with members (Word, Excel, NationBuilder, web updates, SMS broadcasts etc)
  • Current drivers licence.
