If yes, the Finance Sector Union has an exciting opportunity in our National Office, based in Sydney/Melbourne for a Campaigns & Research Officer. The Finance Sector Union is the union for one of the biggest and fastest growing industries in Australia. We organise workers across Australia’s bank, insurance, credit union and superannuation employers. We play a vital role of empowering our members to work together and campaign to secure dignity and respect at work. Our members fight for and deliver improved working entitlements in an evolving industry.

The Campaigns & Research Officer will report to the National Secretary and you will join a driven organisation using your ability to prepare briefs and campaign materials for the FSU leadership team for use in achieving policy outcomes with governments, stakeholders and affiliates. You will undertake and participate in a broad range of activities including project based work with campaign and media teams, development of FSU policy, submissions to parliamentary inquiries, collaborating with allied organisations, representing FSU at external bodies, and internal and external briefings as required and examine finance sector industry work trends both locally and internationally.

Key Selection Criteria:

  • Commitment to delivery outcomes for FSU members

  • Comprehensive knowledge of the issues facing the finance sector

  • A basic awareness of key state and federal legislation relevant to these policy area

  • Ability to work as part of a team

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Excellent research and analytical skills

  • Ability to plan and priorities work

Desirable qualifications/experience:

  • Relevant experience in political, union or not for profit roles

  • Relevant experience in campaigning

  • Relevant experience managing complex working environments and stakeholder groups

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in economics, law, legal studies, politics, or social policy

Salary for the Campaigns & Research Officer position can be provided on request. FSU also offers excellent working conditions including employer superannuation contributions of 15%.
