Lead Organiser (Fixed Term Contract)

We have an exciting opportunity in our New South Wales/ACT Branch, based in Sydney for an experienced Lead Organiser(fixed term contract) until the end of August 2016, to cover for a vacancy created by Parental Leave.  

Reporting to the Local Executive Secretary, the Lead Organiser will be responsible for leading, developing and coaching a team of organisers. The successful applicant will be required to lead and co-ordinate their team to effectively organise specific workplaces, determining industrial priorities and influencing the union's enterprise bargaining and industry campaigns.

Selection Criteria:

Essential Experience and Qualifications

  1. At Least 3 years’ experience working for or being actively involved in a trade union or similar not for profit organisation.

  2. Experience leading a team in the application of the principles and techniques of organising or building power with a volunteer network.

  3. Demonstrated ability to motivate, mentor and develop others.

  4. Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, interpersonal and negotiation skills.

  5. Demonstrated strategic and analytical thinking.

  6. Demonstrated ability to implement organising plans and the ability to problem solve and come up with creative solutions.

  7. Excellent time management and personal organisational skills.

  8. A demonstrated commitment to and enthusiasm for trade unionism and/or social justice.

  9. A drivers licence.

 Desirable

  1. Knowledge of contemporary industrial relations issues and practices.

  2. Ability to develop communications/messages to a wide audience.

  3. An understanding of power relationships and techniques to build power working with volunteers.

  4. Capacity to occasionally work outside of business hours.

Salary

As stipulated in the FSU Staff agreement 2015 the salary shall be set at tier 1 of the lead organiser pay scale, currently $83,562 per annum with 1 RDO per month. The FSU also offers other excellent working conditions including employer superannuation contributions of 15%.
