National Industrial Officer – Campaign Organising (Sydney)

We have an exciting opportunity in our National Office, based in Sydney for an Industrial Officer.

This Industrial Officer - Campaign Organising role is responsible for the development, co-ordination and implementation of national industrial campaigns and bargaining within specific employers. As an Industrial Officer you would also have a role in dealing with disputes and grievances at a local or national level.  

Selection Criteria:

Essential Experience and Qualifications

  1. Demonstrated commitment to and enthusiasm for trade unionism and/or social justice.

  2. 3 years’ experience working for a trade union or related field.

  3. Demonstrated experience in representing employees (or similar groups) with grievances’.
  4. Proven experience coordinating and implementing campaigns.
  5. Proven experience negotiating agreements with employers/employees/other.
  6. Knowledge of contemporary industrial relations issues and practices.
  7. Excellent communication, presentation, interpersonal, influencing skills.
  8. Ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse groups, including employers.
  9. Excellent written communication skills.
  10. Demonstrated strategic thinking, particularly in planning and implementation of national organising campaigns.

  11. Strong time management and personal organisational skills, including the ability to perform work within specified timelines.
  12. Ability to work autonomously as well as in a team environment


  1. Tertiary qualification in law, industrial relations or related field.
  2. Experience in successfully representing employees before tribunals eg Fair Work Commission.

Salary shall be paid at Grade 11.3 of the FSU Staff Collective Agreement, currently $81524.00 per annum with 1 RDO per month. The FSU also offers other excellent working conditions including employer superannuation contributions of 15%.
