Low Pay, No Way

When a campaign in support of contract cleaners at Canary Wharf shamed Barclays Bank into announcing a living wage for all its London workers, it marked an effective new alliance between trade unions and the wider community.
Subcontracting just about all work allows corporations to avoid responsibilities of decent pay and conditions and makes it necessary for new ways of organising those workers and communities to ensure living wages and conditions. This article on action in London that has seen the formation of the London Living Wage Campaign, formed around 80 faith groups, trade unions, schools and community organisations.
