Corporations: Time to Blame Time to Change
By Peter Brokensha
The actions of governments are under continual scrutiny but the often greater adverse impacts of corporate behaviour on the well being of the nation and its citizens gets less attention or informed debate.
Brokensha considers:
· The power of corporations. How can this be curbed?
· The greed and anti-social behaviour of corporations. How can this be exposed?
· The dysfunctional structures and governance of corporations. How can this be changed?
Brokensha continues his argument in the Spring issue (no. 30) with a look at the Howard governments' dilemma when faced with the business opposition to what they see as the increased interference by the ACCC in their affairs. Business hopes the Dawson Committee will reign it in. This at a time when in the US is seeking to increase corporate accountability.
