Enterprise Agreements and Weekend Work

By ACIRRT

Ordinary hours of work for the majority of employees have been from Mondays to Fridays. Some industries have always been exceptions, notably agriculture, emergency services, hospitality and restaurants and mining.

Monday to Friday ordinary hours is a relatively recent phenomenon with Saturday mornings a common requirement for many jobs until about 30 years ago.

ACIRRT's analysis of 1906 agreements shows that the ordinary working week is changing once again with many now providing ordinary hours on weekends with no penalty rates. In this ADAM Report they look closely at the provisions in these agreements to reveal the trends by industry.
