The Role

The successful applicant will be part of the Union’s management team participating in the strategic direction of the team he/she leads and the Union as whole. This is a critical time for the Union due to the pressures governments are placing on job security, with the risk of membership decreases resulting from privatisations and amalgamations.

The role requires a skilled and proactive manager who will deliver sound management of their team and a seamless service to our members. The Manager will ascertain recruitment opportunities and position the Union so it has sustainable membership growth and is able to have a meaningful impact on an increasingly difficult industrial arena.

The manager will play a crucial role in developing key strategies for the union and its members in a changing industrial environment and will focus on delivering results in line with these strategies.

The Candidate

The successful applicant will be:

  • An individual who has extensive experience in the industrial arena, and is aware of the internal and external influences that impact on Unions.
  • An innovative and inspiring manager who will help the USU’s ongoing excellence in service and leadership, concentrating on strategic direction, development, and the delivery of effective and sustainable services to our members.
  • A strategic thinker to develop, review and implement strategies in line with the Union’s goals.
  • An outstanding communicator.
  • A strong leader who can manage multiple projects that require the management and development of staff, raising support, communication, innovation and collaboration.
  • An individual who is committed to principles of Unionism and the USU’s values of: Respect, Integrity and teamwork to lead a strong and committed team.
  • The individual will be results and outcomes driven and have the ability to meet or exceed KPIs.
