National Campaign Organiser (Trainee) 20180522

National Campaign Organiser

The Australian Workers’ Union has launched an exciting, new and innovative campaign for hairdressers called Hair Stylists Australia.

Our National Office is looking for a Trainee Campaign Organiser to drive the day-to-day workings of the campaign, to develop activists, recruit new members and help us build a strong movement of hairdressers.

About you:

  • You are a “people person” and build rapport and new relationships with ease
  • You have a positive attitude to work, can think on your feet and are solutions driven.
  • You are willing and open to learn and develop new skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice and union values

The Campaign Organiser is responsible for:

  • Recruiting new members and supporters
  • Develop and support activists
  • Contribute to the planning of campaigns

Skills and experience:

  • Strong time management and personal organisational skills, including the ability to perform work within specified timelines and plan work systematically and effectively.
  • The ability to work autonomously as well as in a team environment.
  • Previous organising and/or campaign experience is an advantage.

About us:

The Australian Workers’ Union has a proud history of fighting for workers’ rights for over 131 years. As the name suggests, we cover workers from all over Australia across a range of industries.

The Hair Stylists Australia campaign is a strategic initiative to organise an industry that isn’t traditionally union, and to improve the working conditions for hairdressers who are one of the lowest paid trades in Australia.

A few things to note:

  • You will be required to travel interstate from time to time.
  • Drivers Licence is preferable
  • We are not able to sponsor temporary visas for applicants.

Based in Sydney
