Position Description
The AWU National Office is seeking a full-time National Industrial Organiser to be based in Sydney. This role will include the following work:

  • Lead the bargaining of national agreements with Branch Organisers and Delegates in AWU Industries;
  • Identify, plan and roll-out bargaining campaigns in targeted Industries to grow the Union and build member strength;
  • Plan and facilitate industry conferences for Union Delegates
  • Overseeing and facilitating the AWU Industry Reference Groups
  • Develop Industrial reports for the AWU National Executive in line with the Union’s workplan and emerging national projects
  • Other duties as directed including representing the union on Industry training committees, at relevant conferences and industry meetings as well as assisting with relevant policy and agreement development

 

Essential criteria

  • previous experience in industrial relations
  • Ability to work under limited supervision in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent written and verbal advocacy skills with a string attention to detail
  • A demonstrated commitment to union values
  • Experience as an Organiser, Senior Delegate, Lead Organiser or similar.
  • Negotiation skills.
  • A commitment to trade union values.
  • Can travel interstate regularly

 

Desirable criteria

  • Familiarity with key industries in which the AWU has coverage
  • An ability to develop, implement and oversee campaign plans.
  • A strong understanding of the Fair Work Act.

Conditions
An attractive Salary will be offered depending on experience and skills plus a vehicle and other generous conditions. A relocation package may also be available to the successful applicant if moving from interstate.
