Communications & Campaign Organiser 20160224

The NTEU - NSW is seeking to employ a full time Communications and Campaign Organiser to join our team. This position is based at the NTEU NSW Division office situated in Surry Hills.  

The NTEU is a federally registered union with coverage of all staff in higher education. The NTEU - NSW is responsible for workers in all NSW universities and their associated student organisations, research institutes and companies.



  • Developing communications media and campaign strategies: Work with staff, branch committees and members to identify, plan and undertake industrial, organising, recruitment and community campaigns designed to build membership and activism.

  • Online organising and campaigning: Produce content and maintain online communities, with a focus on email, web publishing and social media platforms.

  • Developing, writing and designing materials: Plan and create publications, flyers, bulletins, posters, social media content and other campaign materials.  

  • Training and capacity building: Develop and train staff and members’ capacity to communicate for change, engage in online activism, win campaigns and grow the union.


  • Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent.
    • Experience working on union, political, or issue-based campaigns with a collective focus.
  • High level communication skills, including persuasive writing/editing experience and demonstrated attention to detail.

  • Design and layout skills, including use of Adobe Creative Suite (particularly InDesign).

  • High level digital fluency, including knowledge of and experience with managing social media, email campaigning, and editing websites (using CMS).

  • Demonstrated campaigning skills.

  • Ability to work to deadlines and set priorities when faced with competing demands.



  • Knowledge of the higher education industry.
  • Demonstrated offline organising skills.
  • Research skills



Salary range is as per NTEU National Staff Agreement Level 6 ($85,531 - $93,764 per annum, plus 17% superannuation).
