We are calling on the Liberal National Government to stand up for working families and reverse the savage and unexpected cuts to Paid Parental Leave.
Working mums and dads are far from rorters, fraudsters and double dippers, they are hardworking people who should receive paid leave to spend time with their precious newborns.
Thanks to the Liberals paid parental leave back-flip on none other than Mother’s Day, 80,000 families now face losing $11,500 from their household budget.
Access to 26 weeks paid parental leave is backed by experts as optimal for the health and well-being of mothers, babies and families, and to support increased participation of mothers in the workforce to boost our economy.
It simply doesn't make social or economic sense to cut paid parental leave.
It’s time to stop the attacks on working parents – will you sign the petition calling on Treasurer Scott Morrison to reverse the cuts to Paid Parental Leave?
For more information on the cuts head over to our activist HQ where you can download resources and help spread the word that a fully funded government Paid Parental Leave scheme matters.
It is ridiculous that the government is penalising working, educated mothers by not allowing them the minimum 26 weeks recommended with their newborns. Disgusting. These children are the future of the country and they are to be put in daycare at 3 months old????
Thanks for the announcement today if $1m of support for the breastfeeding support line to continue…pity that with the changes in paid parental leave your are FORCING new mums to go back to work well before the 6 months that your own current health minister recommends.
my second child is due early august so im going to miss the cut off which means i will only get the 18weeks from the government forcing me to go back to work much sooner this will have a huge effect on our family as i will be forced to send my newborn to child care much earlier than i would have liked to and will possibly effect me being able to breastfeed as long. Not to mention my mental health will suffer drastically as sleep deprivation and post natal depression are real issues and shouldn’t be dismissed. I don’t believe we are double dipping i have been a hard worker all my life and pay my taxes.
Tiffany Ahlers – Taking away precious time with a new baby…does the government want to be anymore greedy!!!
How about cutting negative gearing to remove the tax cuts from the wealthy, not target brand new mothers! So shady how you promised an unrealistic amazing new ppl scheme to get into government only to now completely screw us over.
Struggling working mums & dads are not deserving of this cut. Being at home with a new baby is very important for the baby as well as the parents. Don’t make us working class mothers have to go back to work early because we can’t afford to stay home unpaid!
I’m just about to go back to work after 12 months off with baby number one. I received 15 weeks (taken at half rate over 30wks) from my employer, and the 18 weeks from the government. When we have baby number two, how am I able to stay home for 12 months and support breastfeeding when this is taken away. Why should I be punished for being educated, working hard and choosing a great employer ? It’s not “double dipping” if the government only pays you once! Once again the LNP policies treat women with lowest form of respect!
An educated community will make our community safer, more clever and richer in every way. The best way to get educated and smarter is to make all education from pre school to university accessible to all. Let us make it a level playing field and fund universities so that the lives of all of us can benefit.
It is highly offensive to refer to women exercising a legitimate workplace entitlement secured through collective bargaining as “double dippers, rorters and fraudsters” because they have also utilised concomitantly the government PPL so as to extend their time with their newborns. It is also very disappointing that the only Abbott policy which would directly assist women in meeting their family responsibilities has been jettisoned by a leader and government completely out of touch with the realities of managing family life in today’s Australia. Shame on you Mr Abbott. Shame on you Mr Hockey!
Liberal government going from 26 weeks at full pay to cutting paid parental leave altogether… Shame. Now if I have another child I will be going back to work 12 weeks after the birth, as most people in this country we are all struggling with the increased cost of living. The paid parental leave helps, it makes ends meet, to cut this is to take Australia backwards.
