Reverse the cuts to Paid Parental Leave

We are calling on the Liberal National Government to stand up for working families and reverse the savage and unexpected cuts to Paid Parental Leave.

Working mums and dads are far from rorters, fraudsters and double dippers, they are hardworking people who should receive paid leave to spend time with their precious newborns.

Thanks to the Liberals paid parental leave back-flip on none other than Mother’s Day, 80,000 families now face losing $11,500 from their household budget.

Access to 26 weeks paid parental leave is backed by experts as optimal for the health and well-being of mothers, babies and families, and to support increased participation of mothers in the workforce to boost our economy.

It simply doesn't make social or economic sense to cut paid parental leave.

It’s time to stop the attacks on working parents – will you sign the petition calling on Treasurer Scott Morrison to reverse the cuts to Paid Parental Leave?

For more information on the cuts head over to our activist HQ where you can download resources and help spread the word that a fully funded government Paid Parental Leave scheme matters.

Another example of Abbott and the Liberal government’s back tracking. I can’t stand their old fashioned and ultra conservative views.

Once the lnp remembered that the 18 weeks ppl was introduced by Labor….of course they had to tear it up…like every other progressive measure that was introduced.

As a teacher employed with NSW DET, I received both the PPL and the employer funded mat leave and was able to take a total of 8 months leave at half pay with my first born. My husband and I are trying for our second and if we don’t fall pregnant within the next two months we will miss out on the PPL and I will be forced to return to work after 6 months (providing we can afford to take it as half pay- highly unlikely with a growing family, mortgage, daycare fees, car payments and rising costs of everyday living). I will be forced to give up breast feeding before returning to work well before I would like to. Before starting a family my husband and I contributed thousands of dollars to tax (and without complaint as this is how we live in such a prosperous and fair country) so why are we being stripped of $11,500 when we need it most?

Tony Abbott, maybe you should look at the rorting, double dipping ways of all politicians. They seem to have worked out every way they can benefit themselves financially.

You are more than happy to except the taxes you collect from all of us working class citizens including “working mothers”.

Maybe you should accept that we “public servants” have negotiated for our entitlements and that taking away any PPL entitlements, introduced by the Government, may just be discrimination based on our jobs or industries which are entitled to both.

Get a grip and leave PPL entitlements as they are or improve them. Certainly do not reduce or remove them entirely.

Whilst i understand the ‘push’ to get mums back to the workplace , you must Realise that by removing those extra weeks with their child it simply means many mums will leave the workforce all together which will cost the government more money in the future

The Liberal National Government is attempting the unthinkable by ripping away the federally funded Paid Parental Leave entitlement from over half of expectant parents who already have an employer funded scheme.

Before the election the Liberal party promised new mums a fully funded Paid Parental Leave that would allow them to spend six months at home with their new babies. Now they've back-flipped on this promise and plan to tear away even the 18 weeks they currently receive from the government.

Providing new mums and babies with ample bonding time is critically important for the child's development. Don't let the Liberals take this away from families.

Will you sign the petition and call on Treasurer Scott Morrison to reverse the cuts to Paid Parental Leave?
