Road Transport Campaigner

General Overview
The Transport Workers’ Union of Australia (TWU) represents some 90,000 men and women in Australia’s aviation, oil, waste management, gas, road transport, passenger vehicles and freight logistics industries. Our core purpose is to give Transport Workers a powerful voice.

Reporting to the Road Transport Campaigns Coordinator, the successful candidate will support the campaign’s work to raise standards and build power through a focus on public actions, building community alliances and being the team liaison with the communications team.

Job Description
Responsibilities will include:
• Work as part of the Road Transport campaign team to develop and implement strategies and activities to engage road transport clients on the safety and freedom of association issues in their supply chains.

• Implement plans for worker and community mobilisations, protests, rallies, and leverage activity to support the road transport campaign.

• Assist in preparing communications materials including presentations for union leadership as well as member communications materials, client materials and public interest materials.

• Develop content for digital campaign platforms.

• Assist in the development and implementation of general campaign strategy and activities.

• Other tasks as directed by the National Secretary, Assistant National Secretary or Chief of Staff.

Essential Experience and Qualifications
Position Requirements:
• Strong communications skills, including ability to present complex information to a broad audience.

• A passion for labour rights and campaigning.

• An ability to operate in a highly political environment and manage complex relationships.

• High standards of professionalism, confidentiality and discretion in handling Union affairs.

• Ability to exercise initiative and demonstrate problem-solving skills.

• Computer skills including word processing PowerPoint and Excel skills.

• A commitment to Labour values.
