AMIEU Newcastle & Northern - Growth Organiser

AMIEU Newcastle & Northern - Growth Organiser

The Australasian Meat Industry Employees Union (AMIEU) represents workers in the meat industry across Newcastle & Northern NSW.

Our coverage also extends to dairy workers, cold storage workers, and associated kindred industries like leather work and tanning.

Due to an increasing union membership, we require the services of an additional organiser to both maintain and accelerate worker power within the industry.

About the role

You will participate in the planning, implementation, and review of targeted recruitment drives to boost union membership.

Duties will include visiting workplaces, coordinating with other AMIEU organisers, developing workplace delegate committees, and all other activities required to drive membership with the AMIEU.

You must be self-motivated, committed to economic and social justice, and have a genuine desire to help workers within the meat industry and associated industries.

You will report directly to the Branch Secretary, and work in coordination with the organisers for each site to assist them with their work.

Training courses will be provided as necessary through ACTU approved training providers.

Benefits and perks

Salary package ranges from $60,000 to $89,000, dependent on experience. Generous superannuation and a vehicle package are also included.

Your employment contract will include 12 rostered days off per year and other generous conditions.

Key selection criteria

You will need to be enthusiastic, energetic and have strong conflict resolution skills which allow you to succeed in occasionally hostile environments.

You will have a demonstrated commitment to trade unionism, excellent listening, verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

You will have the ability to lead, motivate, develop and mobilise union members, workplace activists and other workers.

You will have knowledge of the key issues that affect specific trade unions and broader social and economic issues.

Good written communication and computer skills are required.

A current driver’s license is essential as you may be spending considerable amounts of time driving between remote work sites in Northern NSW.

We seek someone who will be flexible and able to work in other locations, as required and undertake different and/or additional functions, as required.

Previous experience in the meat or dairy processing industries is highly desirable.

Must be a permanent resident of Australia, or on a pathway to permanent residency.

Applicants are required to address the key selection criteria as outlined above.
