The Transport Workers’ Union of Australia (TWU) is one of Australia’s leading campaigning trade unions. Our union fights to give transport workers a powerful voice in support of social and economic justice.

We are seeking a Junior Strategic Campaigner to play a key role in Safe Rates, our road transport campaign. It’s an exciting year for the campaign, with a strong focus on public campaigning, organising, bargaining and reforming the transport industry by fighting billion dollar corporations. This role is essential to make this reform possible.

Role

The Junior Strategic Campaigner’s main focus is to grow union power by assisting with the implementation of the national campaigns around the country. This is a role for someone who is passionate about organising and campaigning, with a strong interest in building their skills in comprehensive campaigning, including stakeholder work, training and education, public actions and activities, administrative tasks and others.

The successful candidate will:

-       Assist and support the execution of the national campaign plan, including bargaining, community campaigning and maximising member growth.

-       Undertake specific campaign project work, such as investigating key clients, planning actions, events and activities and tracking projects and plans across the union.

-       Assist with the development of research, planning and communications.

-       Monitor external corporate, political, communication and technical developments related to the campaign, briefing the team as required.

-       Liaise with staff in other departments of the union to achieve success for the campaign.

-       Support team members and branches in the training and development of delegates and members.

-       Build and manage relationships with staff in TWU state branches.

The successful applicant will ideally have:

-       A background in the union movement or community organising.

-       The ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

-       A willingness to understand and implement union growth strategies.

-       Strong communications skills, including demonstrated ability to write reports and draft internal and external communications.

-       Good IT communications skills.

-       A commitment to Labour values.

-       The role will be based in our national office in Sydney, with interstate travel.

-       Applications welcome from candidates with the required experience and a passion for human rights.
