Union Summer Internship 2018


Applications are now open for the Union Summer Internship, 2018. Union Summer is a three-week internship run from Monday 29th of January – 16th of February 2018. Successful applicants will be placed with a trade union for the three weeks, and are provided not only with training, but a diverse experience of what it is like to work for a union.


About Unions NSW and its affiliates.

Unions NSW is the voice for working people across the state.

As the peak union body representing 60 affiliated unions and over 600,000 affiliated union members who work in an array of industries and occupations. Unions exist to represent the interests and workplace rights of union members.


Prerequisites and application process.

Union Summer has been designed for young people who are interested in workers’ rights and social justice, who would like to find out more about how unions work and how we campaign to make Australia a better place for working people and their families.

There are no specific prerequisites for the internship, however experience in union, community, social justice or student activism is desirable.


Important dates and other information.

Applicants who are selected for the next stage of the application process will be required to attend and interview to be held on either Thursday 7th or Friday 8th of December.

The program will run from Monday 29th January – Friday 16th February and includes three days of training provided by Unions NSW. This will be followed by placement in a union and mentoring by a union official.

There is an allowance paid to all successful applicants.

All interns will be paid at the minimum adult wage for the duration of the internship program including superannuation contributions (11.5% and 9.5% for females and males respectively).
