Graphic Designer & Content Creator

You will work on Canberra’s leading social and community campaigns in 2016, including Australia’s largest social justice and mobilisation campaign, Build a Better Future.

We are looking for a digital and traditional content creator and coordinator, with strong graphic design capabilities. Your high impact, professional visual design and writing skills will help cement public perceptions of our campaigns.

You will work in close collaboration with our innovative campaign team to create, coordinate and scheduling of our campaign and advocacy material. This includes creating content for our websites, social media, traditional hard-copy collateral (flyers, banners, posters, etc), videos and mass communications (email, SMS, etc).

Experience: We are looking for a passionate, good-humoured go-getter, capable of producing high impact design and content. Your positive attitude, ambition and commitment to social justice, combined with strong technical graphic design skills with Adobe CS will make you an ideal candidate.

Experience in digital content creation, photography/videography and video editing are highly desired but not essential.

This is a role for a go-getting early career digital native and passionate graphic designer looking to build a profile and portfolio, or a most established design professional wanting to work in the social justice, for-purpose sector.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Design and update content for our websites and social media properties.
  • Take creative, high-impact ideas from conception to execution.
  • Coordinate and create content for our digital communications, especially our social media and mass emails.
  • Create and design all traditional (print) campaign collateral for our high-impact campaigns within time and cost constraints.
  • Support the design, A/V and communications needs of the campaigns team, including photography and videography.
  • Create and coordinate digital and traditional collateral for a range of activities, including our WorkWatch unit, and our various community partners and affiliates.
  • Keep abreast of emerging industry standards, technologies, trends and sectoral activity.
  • Other duties as required.

Key selection criteria:

  • Demonstrated highly developed capability in the use of Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop.
  • Demonstrated ability to create website and social media content (graphic design and copy-writing).
  • Experience in using social media platforms for scheduling and execution of promotional initiatives.
  • Accomplished verbal and written communication skills, with ability to write high impact, action-driven copy.
  • Strong time management and organisational skills, and ability to deliver within budget and time constraints.
  • A commitment to social justice.
  • An Australian drivers license.
  • Highly Desired: Demonstrated photography and videography skills.
  • Desired: Experience with CSS and HTML coding for web design.


  • This is a part-time, 3 day per week position.
  • The position is a fixed term contract until 1 December 2016, with the possibility for extension after that.
  • Salary range is $58,524 - $70,826 (pro-rata), based on experience.
  • 14.5% employer superannuation contribution.
  • 17.5% annual leave loading.
  • Smart-phone provided (or reimbursed).
  • Will include some after-hours & weekend work, and travel in and around the Canberra region.
