United Voice - Lead Union Organiser

ABOUT UNITED VOICE VICTORIA

United Voice Victoria is a powerful member-led union driving change by growing union membership, developing leadership amongst our members, encouraging active member participation in the union, building and enforcing standards in our sectors, and campaigning in the community and politics.

ROLE

Lead Union Organisers work as part of a team of organisers assigned to a particular group of workers to build union membership and leadership.  As a Lead in the team, you will be responsible for ensuring that the organising objectives and tasks are carried out by the team as a whole. You will track the team’s activities and report to the Organising Director on a routine basis to review and assess progress.

 You are

  • Excellent in communicating and influencing
  • Able to build rapport with a range of different people
  • Computer literate and have the ability to learn the organisation’s technology tools
  • Confident and interested in talking to people

Key Tasks

  • Setting the pace in the team
  • Developing worker contact methods for organising workplaces and industries
  • Messaging and debriefing Organisers
  • Implementing targets for union strength in workplaces
  • Setting work plans with Organisers
  • Delivering accurate worker information to the Organising Director
  • Running activist and delegate committee meetings
  • Working effectively with others in the Union

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

  • Demonstrated success at growing union membership and leadership
  • Excellent organising skills and ideas
  • Passion for the union movement
  • Ability to strategize and find solutions to challenges
  • Effective interaction with colleagues
  • Ability to work non-standard hours
  • Drivers licence
  • Community organising experience is a plus

REMUNERATION

Starting salary of $78,476 per annum, plus motor vehicle allowance of $14,491 per annum for the use of your own vehicle.  Benefits include generous superannuation, income protection and 6 weeks annual leave.
