United Voice Victoria - Industrial Officer

Role 

The Industrial Officer: 

  • Resolves workplace issues by providing industrial advice to members over the phone and on site
  • Provides representation before industrial tribunals and ensures that member’s award or agreements are being enforced
  • Assists members with individual issues including discipline
  • Builds union strength by ensuring that members have a positive union experience when they receive assistance from the Union Rights Centre (URC)

Key Tasks

Industrial Officers in the Union Rights Centre:

  • Provide a positive union experience for members through individual phone advice, and through advocacy and representation
  • Grow the union by signing workers up to the union, and developing participation and leadership through collective workplace issues, across the union
  • Execute plans to grow the union in sites and sectors designated as ‘Workplace Organising’ through sign up, participation and leadership development around workplace issues
  • Resolve issues with workers using a variety of campaign and industrial/legal tools including conciliation, courts, tribunals and agencies

Key Selection Criteria

The Industrial Officer demonstrates:

  • Experience in one of the following: union, community, social justice, student or other activist, campaigns, volunteer work or a relevant social sciences, industrial relations or related degree
  • Ability in managing expectations around dispute resolution
  • Ability in using legislation, awards and agreements to enforce member’s rights and entitlements
  • Has significant experience in advocating in meetings, preferably through the Fair Work Commission or the Small Claims Courts
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to track, analyse, report and improve workplace practices

Remuneration 

United Voice provides competitive pay and working conditions; a salary range of $78,660 to $90,553 inclusive of motor vehicle allowance. The position also attracts 12% superannuation, 6 weeks annual leave, 25% leave loading and salary continuance insurance.
