Communications Officer (Industry Campaigner)

United Voice is looking for a Communications Officer (Industry Campaigner) to join our campaign from January 2015 for quality early childhood education and care.

You might be fresh out of university or have decades of practical experience.

We are looking for someone with passion to fight for the stories and needs of our members who work in early childhood education and care (what used to be called ‘childcare’ – but we know it is so much more than that).

  • Your experience ranges from helping organise community events, last minute media conferences and carefully planned multi-stage communications campaigns;
  • You can write a broadcast email quickly and brilliant copy for a poster that grabs attention;
  • You not only like social media, you know what makes other people ‘like’ it too;
  • You know that when talking to the community you need everything from printed flyers to clever hashtags and ways to engage people;
  • You know that from little things big things grow - data entry, maintaining databases, updating agendas and minutes;
  • Managing an ad shoot doesn’t scare you and you are not easily impressed by the latest ad agency pitch;
  • You solve problems and can implement a plan quickly and accurately;
  • You know the difference between the Herald Sun and the Sun-Herald and know how to make a story “newsworthy”;
  • There is also a checklist of things that you should tell us you can do:
    • Microsoft office – from document control to PowerPoint presentations that WAKE PEOPLE UP;
    • Navigate your way around Adobe Photoshop, InDesign and the rest – we aren’t looking for a designer but you will be dealing with them;
    • Take a good photo on anything from an iPhone to a Cannon 5D; and
    • You are happy to learn to shoot and edit videos of our amazing members.

More important than all of the above – you want to be part of one of Australia’s oldest but most innovative and progressive unions.

Each day you will be delivering for members who are relying on you while they do one of the nation’s most important jobs – educating and caring for the next generation of Australians.
