We are the Western Australian branch of United Voice, one of Australia’s oldest and largest unions, with a proud history of more than 100 years of making life better for working Australians everywhere. We represent workers in a wide range of industries including, Health, Aged Care, Cleaning, Security, Hospitality, Education & Early Childhood Education and Care. The branch is at the forefront of developing and implementing new and innovative organising campaigns

Our organisers play a vital role in empowering our members to work together securing their rights at work, and constantly improving working conditions and entitlements.

We are looking for a dedicated, talented and innovative Team Lead. As a Team Lead, you will be responsible for strategic planning of campaigns, ensuring that the organising objectives and tasks are carried out by the team as a whole, tracking the team’s activities and report to the Assistant Branch Secretary to review and assess progress.

 Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading, managing and mentoring a team of organisers; developing organising skills, creating clearly defined team roles, structures, and processes to hold the team accountable to the plan and briefing and debriefing the team on plan implementation;
  • Translating strategic industry plans into operational plans, in consultation with key delegates and members, with recruitment and leadership development goals;
  • Developing delegates so they are able to identify, recruit and engage member leaders and activists who therefore have ownership of the plan;
  • Coordinating the various functions (e.g. communications, research, legal) of an industry plan or campaign;
  • Working closely and collaboratively with the internal organising team;

 

Selection Criteria:

  • Demonstrated success at growing union membership and leadership;

  • Participate and demonstrate strong commitment to union values and social justice;

  • Have a deep understanding  of a trade union;
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise, develop and direct teams with innovative campaigns;

  • Extensive experience in designing and implementing complex organising campaigns;
  • Have experience working as a lead organiser, senior organiser or co-ordinating campaigns;

  • Ability to strategize and find solutions to challenges

  • Have excellent organisation and communication skills;

  • Be respectful of workers and union staff in all their diversity;

  • Have a valid Driver’s Licence;

  • Be able to work flexible arrangements;
