Fifty years of Women’s activism has landed us in a unique position to drive forward Gender Equality.

Women, women’s organisation and unions have campaigned and advocated for women’s equality and the human right to safety. Recent campaigns include ‘We Won’t Wait’, ‘Stop Rape on Campus’, #metoo, women’s marches for justice and current Respect at Work campaign.

  • Indigenous females are 34 times more likely to be hospitalised for a family violence assault.
  • 1 in 3 LGBTI+ people experience partner or family violence.
  • Women with a disability are twice as like to experience violence by a cohabitating partner.

These statistics are shocking and remind us that intersecting identities can create vastly different experiences.

This engaging panel discussion and Q&A will explore this and challenge our perceptions about Australian society.

Australia was once a world leader in tackling sexual harassment. In the 1970s and 1980s we passed workplace discrimination laws, outlawed workplace sexual harassment and created an Anti-Discrimination Commissioner.
